Blogging about sweets
Sweets have been around for centuries.
Well, ever since someone figured out how to refine sugar.
And Sweets have evolved through the years as new technology arises.
I remember in the old sweet factory where we used to make sugar mice and dummies and pigs just by pouring the sugar mixture into moulds. They’re made in a similar way today but with the economy of scale that is quite frightening.
You probably don’t know this but most gummies these days are made using a pattern pressed into a bed of cornflower, after the jelly has been injected into the mould and released the cornflour is recycled. The idea is so that the moulds don’t wear out and don’t require hygienic cleaning.
There’s also a lot of fun sweets around, Red Devils, Bloodshot eyeballs, pineapples, all kinds of very strange shapes and colours too.
What Woolworths would have made of it all back in the day I have no clue.
Sweets are coming from far and wide too. Take for instance the very popular Vegan sweets from Bubs Godis in Sweden.
This goes to show the richness and diversity of sweets available today and we would need a pretty big warehouse to store all our pick and mix sweets.
But really we do everything we do because of our customers.
Some have been coming back for years.
And it’s always so nice to hear from people when they’re delighted or if we have goofed up. (it does happen).
But hey, we’re humans who are crazy about sweets and getting the best ones out to our customers.
We still do the classic sweets in our pick and mix though.
